The two students Jonas Bornkamp and Orlando Aldini (HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd) - coached by BUSSE Design+Engineering - worked on their bachelor's thesis in product design, which was presented at the exhibition on February 10 and 11, 2024.
The vision is to merge the turntable ladder control station and the vehicle cabin so that the remaining space on a compact 16-ton turntable ladder vehicle can be used even better. The resulting reversal of the ladder orientation to the rear now enables convenient quick access from the rear directly into the turntable ladder cage without having to set it down or climb up the ladder beforehand.
After reaching the scene and lowering the stabilizers, the driver only has to turn his seat and sits directly in the main control station of the turntable ladder. This is integrated into the vehicle cab in a rearward-facing and weather-protected position and moves ergonomically with the rotation and inclination of the ladder.
The design of the vehicle follows the guiding principles of "Serving Heros", "Attack and protect" and combines innovation with tradition and usability. Powerful horizontal lines that convey safety contrast with deliberately used slopes that emphasize the dynamics and direction of the vehicle. The cab, with its dual function as a forward-facing driver's cab and a rotating turntable ladder control station, was designed in the field of tension of symmetry and clear orientation towards the front of the vehicle. The horizontal signet on the cab creates an exciting contrast to the dynamic lines of the two operating directions and cab ends.
In addition to the exterior, the students also worked out the interior in great detail and, in addition to a high-quality design model on a scale of 1:16, also prepared virtual reality data and animations so that this study can be experienced on all levels.
All in all, we believe this is a successful bachelor's thesis that reflects the requirements of usability, standards and practice on the one hand, while still formulating a visionary and appealing design thesis on the other.
We congratulate the two students on their successful Bachelor's degree and are delighted to have been part of this visionary study!
